In the 16th century the castle was abandoned and fell into disrepair. Up to this day the only relics are the fortification and gothic tower called “Trúba“, which stands over the town of Štramberk and serves as an observation tower with a beautiful view of the Beskydy and Jeseníky Mountains.

In Štramberk there is a preserved historical town with Walachian architecture, the memorial hall of the local illustrator Zdeněk Burian. In Šipka Cave (Arrow Cave) there is an archeological dig with remains of Neanderthals. Thanks to its picturesque scenery, the historical centre with the Štramberk Trúba landmark is called “Moravian Bethlehem“.

The Tatra Technical Museum + Emil a Dany Zátopek Exhibition

The unique Technical Museum in Kopřivnice covers nearly a hundred and fifty-year-old history of the Tatra car factory since the time, when in 1897 the first car called Präsident was manufactured in Austria-Hungary.

Passenger, sport and freight vehicles of the Tatra brand, car frames, engines, a sport aircraft and other interesting objects are the biggest attraction for many visitors to the town. The Hall of Fame is devoted to Emil Zátopek, a native of Kopřivnice and his wife Dana, the famous Olympic champions.

Hukvaldy Castle

The ruin of Hukvaldy Castle is one of the largest in Central Europe and the second largest in Moravia. The stone castle was built in the 13th century by Arnold of Hückeswagen and it was never captured. It was only destroyed by a fire in the 18th century and it is currently partly restored. The tower affords a broad view of the Moravian Gate and the whole Odra River valley all the way to Ostrava and the main range of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains.

A game preserve park with fallow deer and moufflon is also a great attraction. The life and work of the music composer Leoš Janáček is inseparably bound up with this place - the castle surroundings are annually a scene of the International Music Festival Janáček in Hukvaldy.

Native house of Sigmund Freud

The native house of Sigmund Freud was reconstructed according to the design of architect Zdeněk Tupý in the spirit of the 2nd half of the 19th century and opened to the public in 2006. In front of the house there is a copper reproduction of Freud´s examination sofa – a life-size work of art. In the native house there is an exposition called “Sigmund Freud – a Human” which aims to introduce Freud as a physician and scientist, but especially as a man who loved humour.

At the entry each visitor receives headphones and is accompanied by the voice of Sigmund Freud “himself”. The plot of the exposition is based on a fictional personal story of this important person who returns to his native Příbor in his declining years. He recalls the fateful and decisive moments of his life and personal career, which he recollects when walking through his native house and by doing so he familiarizes the visitor with specific facts of his personal and profession life. He makes it possible to look into his inner feelings and more easily understand the methods of his scientific work. Freud´s relationship to humour as the spice of life is shown by caricatures drawn by Vladimír Jiránek.
